Chess Club
*****THE CHESS CLUB IS NOW FULL*****
The Chessmasters Chess Club is now a part of the wonderful Stoneleigh PTA. This club is open to only third, fourth, and fifth grade students. We have secured excellent, experienced instructors to lead the program that will run from mid-November until April. The Chess Club will be meeting on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
2011-2012 Chess Club TUESDAY MEETING DATES: November 22nd, and 29th; December 6th, 13th and 20th; January 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st and 24th; February 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th; March 6th, 13th, 20th, and27th; April 10th.
We have a new plan for The Chessmasters now that we are part of the PTA. We will have several chess coaches to work with small groups of students. The club’s classes will be separated by age and years of experience. Mrs. Thompson will be back as the coordinator and head coach. Steven Alpern is the head of Baltimore City School Chess, obtained the level of Chessmaster, is a parent of a former Chess Masters, and lives in Stoneleigh. Zachary Jablow will be returning to coach, he is a high ranked USCF player and a former Stoneleigh Chessmaster. We are looking for one more coach if the numbers of our club reach that necessity. We will also have a few wonderful parent volunteers. We believe all of this will make the club a terrific experience for all the students.
Enrollments will be based on the POSTMARK of the completed registration, and will be on a first come basis. ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE MAILED. A minimum of 10 students is required and there will be a maximum of 25 enrollees per club class.
The registration fee for CHESS club is $100. A confirmation email will be sent out to enrollees’ parents before the first class meeting. If the clubs are over-subscribed, registration fees will be returned through the homeroom teachers. After Monday, November 21st registration fees will be non-refundable.
Please mail completed registration form and check payable to Stoneleigh PTA to: Kathy Dalrymple, 7004 Bristol Rd, Baltimore, MD 21212.
